WELCOME FROM THE GM
SuperSport Schools Turns One! Wow, what a journey, I don’t know where the time has gone. There have been some incredible milestones, highlights and learnings over the year, but for me the most important one was simply getting this project off the ground. I’ve listed some of the most memorable milestones throughout the year below. Thank you for being a part of the journey with us, there is still a lot of hard work to be done but we certainly appreciate having you on the ride with us!
We are thrilled to have passed 100 000 app downloads in the first week of May! Thank you to all who have supported us in reaching this milestone and being a part of the community. We want to keep growing so forward this email to family and friends so they can get in on the action.

SSS HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR
Viwe goes viral
What a start we have had with our partnership with Athletics South Africa and BackTrack Sports! We were there to put a shine on 19 new South African records at the respective season-ending Primary School, High School, and Junior Championships. Our cameras also captured greatness as Viwe Jingqi shattered a 30-year-old SA record and became the fastest U18 100m sprinter in the WORLD! Amazing effort by all the winners.
SA Schools Water Polo IPT
The debut broadcast of the SA Schools Water Polo IPT in Cape Town with the broadcast of 369 matches across 10 pools in four days.
Easter Festivals come back with a bang
The Easter Festivals broadcast from six venues, including 30 simultaneous live streams at the peak of the St Stithians College Easter Festival. Well done to all the schools – St Stithians, St John’s, KES, Kearsney College, Jeppe and Bergsig on being outstanding hosts.
Incredible growth of our footprint
The roll-out of over 100 automated and artificial intelligence driven cameras across over 70 schools and clubs.
NASHUA RISING STAR OF THE MONTH
Our Nashua Rising star for May is 13-year-old high jump record-breaker, Kwena Matlala, from Pepps Preparatory School in Polokwane, Limpopo. He broke the 22-year-old record of 1.74m with a 1.75m jump at the SA Primary Schools championship. He chatted to our team following his gold medal win.
1. How do you feel about your achievement?
I feel like a champion. I’m so proud of myself for believing in myself because at the beginning I didn’t think I was going to make it to the top 3.
2. How do you feel about being live on SuperSport Schools for the world to see?
Being on SuperSport Schools made me feel like a hero of my province (Limpopo). I hope the coverage will help me get scholarships as I look to take my athletics forward.
3. Who is your favourite athlete?
My favourite athlete is Javier Sotomayor, he is the best high jump record-holder in the world.
4. What are your future ambitions?
I would love to compete at the Olympics and to continue breaking records.
